Clarkson Conversation with Sir Harold Kroto
September 18, 2006
Dean of Arts and Sciences Dick Pratt speaks with Sir Harold W. Kroto, 1996 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry and professor in the Department of Chemistry at Florida State University.
Dr. Kroto won the 1996 Nobel Prize with Robert F. Curl and Richard E. Smalley for their discovery of buckminsterfullerene, a molecule consisting of 60 carbon atoms in the shape of a soccer ball – hence, the name, "buckyballs."
Dick and Sir Harlod explore: what science is, how the media, politicians and others perceive science and scientists, and some of the problems that non-scientists have in understanding the science, engineering and technology upon which our modern world is so completely and precariously balanced.
